Michael Jackson- The King of Pop

Michael Jackson has left many exciting memories with us. The video This Is It left me with a few thoughts. Michael Jackson's ability to move his body and dance is rather interesting and amazing. The fact that he can make robotic moves is great being that not many people can do that. This video helps me make an assumption that Jackson is friendly with others and easy to work with. He doesn't just have the ability to learn new choreography, but he is also able to teach it. The way Jackson taught the others the dance reminds me of a video I saw with his sister Janet Jackson teaching others a dance that would be performed at an upcoming show. Michael Jackson is a legend and it is a pity that he died. Michael Jackson is gone, but not forgotten.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T! WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU

What does respect mean to you. To mean, it means treating others the way you want to be treated. Respect  shows what you have learned in your lifetime as well as what kind of person you are. So my question to you is "What does respect mean to you?"

The Highest Prize- The Nobel Peace Prize

Only nine months into his presidency, President Obama received the highest prize there is which is the nobel peace prize. It seems as though he won the award based on his ambitions.
Truly, a very extraordinary turn of events when one thinks of it. Jimmy Carter waited years to get his after years of trying procure peace in various hot spots throughout the world.

“Perhaps for this reason, the newspaper said, “Analysts have almost unanimously interpreted his selection as a way of pressuring Obama to make pacifist choices as his administration continues forward.”  Link for Quote

Mother Theresa, also another Nobel Prize winner, who sacrificed her life to care for the poor. The paper quotes the following:

“Obama ought to recall that in 1979 he was preceded by Mother Teresa, who had the courage to state in her acceptance speech that the harshest war with the greatest number of ‘fallen’ is the practice of abortion, legalized and facilitated as well by the international structures.”     Link for Quote

Three past presidents have won the Nobel Peace Prize which are Roosevelt, Wilson, and Carter.   Past Presidents who have Won the Nobel Peace Prize

Dream within a Dream, My Dream Differed

My mama always tells me to, “Dream within a dream, my dream deferred.” I’m sure all of us here have dreams or goals including me, but my dreams will need more effort and time. My goals include accomplishing things during high school, attending college, and finding a cure for cancer. So what makes my goals different,? Is that I have the will and the power, the courage and the patience, and blessings to carry through with my future plans.

My first goal, that I share with the peers that sit before me is that we all plan on finishing high school. No one wants to drop out or fail out of school because we all want to be someone important and go somewhere in life. My time at Benjamin Banneker Academy will be successful and influential. Not because I can predict the future, but because I want it to happen. I plan on graduating with a high grade point average and with honors. I’ll even go on to say that I want to become valedictorian or salutatorian. After graduating from Benjamin Banneker, I would like to attend an Ivy League college or at least a decent college. I’ll take my education in college to the highest level possible. My main goals will take place after I graduate from college. Becoming a neonatal nurse is a career I have had my mind set on for a couple of years now due to the fact that I enjoy taking care of little infants. After securing a job as a neonatal nurse, I would like to find a cure for all cancers. I’ve been inspired to find this cure after learning that my grandfather has cancer in the bones. Even as I speak at this very moment, he suffers. A great family friend who I knew since I was about three years old and grew up with my mom, aunts, and uncles died three weeks ago due to gastric cancer which is cancer in the stomach. Coming up with a cure for cancer will help many people who are suffering from cancer. I’ll follow my mother’s footsteps and eventually purchase a house, and start a family of my own.

My fellow classmates, as you go through your journey in life, people will yell you that you cannot do things. However a quote says “Those who say it cannot be done shouldn’t interrupt the people doing it.” If you fall, pick yourself up knowing that there is something great to look forward to. Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something, because achieving anything in this lifetime is possible. Remember to always “Shoot for the moon. And even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

Be Smart, Be Unique, Be Responsible, Be Independent, Be YOU!!!

In this world, we all have something in common, but I'm one of a kind. I'm unique, intelligent, creative, responsible and independent. I"m an outgoing girl who loves to shop and is very funny. I consider myself to be adventurous but not curious, after all, curiosity killed the cat. My hobbies are cooking, shopping, bowling, traveling and taking care of young children. In school my strength is english and my weakness is math. However, the part of english that I really do not like is poetry. As always, I am a work in progress. I am learning to develop patience, have the ability to control my attitude and temper and not speak my mind when what I will say may be offensive. I always try my best to treat others the way I would like to be treated. My motto in life is to always "Be Smart, Be Unique, Be Responsible, Be Independent, Be YOU!"

How Important is Academics?

In my opinion, academics determines where and what you will be in the future. Of course we all think that math, history, english and science are boring, and useless, and just a complete waste of time. No one wants a job, we all prefer a career, and almost every career requires one of our major subjects. Think about it, nurses and doctors require science and math, lawyers have to use logic which is a part of english, and the most obvious are teachers who need all four subjects. I like to think of academics as something that I won't have to do all my life. Eventually, I'll graduate and academics won't be so important as it was when I was in school. Due to the fact that I am in high school, I try to take school seriously because I need a high school diploma no matter if I decide to go to college or get a job. In junior high school, the motto was "Failure is not an option but an expectation!" I plan to think the same way throughout the journey of my high school. My point is that academics is vital in this lifetime and it is necessary for success.
