Youtube

Youtube can simply be described as a place for entertainment. Youtube is a place where anyone can watch videos, clips or parts of a show and even exclusive videos. If an individual wants to upload a video, they must first create an account with Youtube. After the short process is completed, the hard part is uploading the video. Videos can be uploaded from your camera and certain sites only. The video will be there forever unless you the user decided to take the video off the site. The video can be watched anywhere and everywhere around the world. I must say, Youtube is one of the places that I use for entertainment being that I can listen to music as well as watch videos.

Shop on eBay

One of the most well known sites for selling and purchasing things from others is eBay. I find eBay rather interesting. People put up pictures of the item that they are trying to sell as well as the price. Then, people who want to purchase the products can bid on the product and of course, the highest bidder wins. People on eBay sell such things as dresses, electronics, textbooks, handbags and many more things. These items can be used or new. Either way, if someone wants or needs the item, they will buy it. I must say using eBay helps to save people time from having to go out themselves and shop for the products they want. eBay is very successful being that hundreds of people use eBay daily. You can shop too at eBay

Another Site for Expressing Ideas and Thoughts

Many people are used to myspace, facebook, and even twitter to network, and make new friends. The newest website I have come across that is similar to these websites is blog.com. It offers just about the same features as myspace and facebook. However, the purpose of blog.com is to continuously blogg about your ideas and thoughts. Some people would rather not blog. When you have an account for blog.com, you can upload pictures, slideshows, and music just like the other networking sites. In addition to this, you can choose your own background. In my opinion, blogger has more purpose than facebook, myspace and twitter because on blogger you actually get the opportunity to share your thoughts. However, I still prefer facebook, myspace and/ or twitter. It's all up to you, are you a blogger?

Myspace

Many people know about the networking site of Myspace. It is place where people can meet new people and friendships are created. There are many things one can do on Myspace such as upload photos of themselves and hold an online conversation. The one downfall of Myspace is the simple fact that if you invite someone who claims to know you, they may not say who they really are. You may be inviting a stranger which can include a sex offender, or a rapist who is simply out there to harm innocent people. Another thing that I dislike about myspace is that for some people, having an account can cause you to loose opportunities when applying for jobs. Myspace is a place to network and have fun, but that all depends on the way you decide to use the site.

Google Earth

Google has to be the only website that seems to never fail. In my opinion, all the components of Google are reliable. Some of these components are Google Books, Google Earth, and Google Docs. I must say that I have never seen any of those components on any other search engine. I find Google Books to simply be amazing. Instead of having to purchase a book, a person can simply stay home and view the majority of the book right then and there. The one things I must say I would change about Google Books is the fact that you cannot copy and paste words or sections from the text. Google Earth is the feature that interest me the most. I think it is great how you can zoom in on any part of the world and see different homes, people and many other things. I haven't seen another website that offers people to see any place that is around the world. Google Docs isn't really anything special. Basically, it is a Microsoft Office Word that is within your email. What I do like about Google Docs is that you can hold conversations with people. All in all, Google is my favorite search engine and has the most features to offer.

My Name

My name is Shamaine Brown. My mother's nickname was Charmaine so when I weas born she changed my name to Shamaine. My middle name is Tasha. My god-mothers name is Tasher which was then changed to Tasha. According to a website, my name means princess. I'm not sure if this is exactly true but I can only say this based on a website. I must say I love my name because it is very different. I have never met anyone with the name Shamaine. I have met someone with the  Charmaine though. Hopefully when I have children in the future. I plan on giving my children names that are from the base of my name which originated from my mother's nickname.

A Gift of Friendship

Friendship is a priceless gift
That cannot be bought or sold.
But its value is far greater than
A mountain made of gold.

For gold is cold and lifeless
It can neither see nor hear
And in the time of trouble it
Is powerless to cheer

It jas no ears to listen
No heart to understand,
It cannot bring you comfort
Or reach out a helping hand

So when you ask God for a gift
Be thankful if He sends, not
Diamonds, pearls or riches
But the love of
Real, true friends

How Am I Doing at Benjamin Banneker Academy

So far, this school year has simply been ok. There hasn't been any fun activities that I was willing to take part in. This past marking period has been a bit rocky for me. I transferred into two classes a couple of weeks after the year had begun. However, my determination and effort helped me to pass not just those two classes, but all my classes. I earned and N which means I need in improvement in living environment. For me, it's a wake up call to let me know that I need to work harder and take my work more seriously. As for the rest of my classes, I managed to receive two E's and four S"s. I know I can work harder but its all up to me to do my best and show my teachers what I am capable of doing.

What Impacts Shamaine's World?

Slideshow of what Impacts My Life

There are quite a few things that impact my life. Technology is one of the main factors which includes ipods, television, music/ the radio, cell phones and computers. The majority of this world consists of technology and almost everyone is capable of using it. Other factors that contribute to the impact of my world is my family. To me, family is most important because no matter what happens to a person's friends, family will always be there. However, friends also impact my world because we all need someone to confide in outside of family. Although many children do not appreciate teachers and the privelage of attending school, teachers are the ones who help us to get an education. It is a sad thing to know that money makes the world go around, but there is more to life than money. Jamaica is another thing that impacts my life because it is where my family is from and my mother always told me that in order to know where you are going, you have to know where you are coming from.

Michael Jackson- The King of Pop

Michael Jackson has left many exciting memories with us. The video This Is It left me with a few thoughts. Michael Jackson's ability to move his body and dance is rather interesting and amazing. The fact that he can make robotic moves is great being that not many people can do that. This video helps me make an assumption that Jackson is friendly with others and easy to work with. He doesn't just have the ability to learn new choreography, but he is also able to teach it. The way Jackson taught the others the dance reminds me of a video I saw with his sister Janet Jackson teaching others a dance that would be performed at an upcoming show. Michael Jackson is a legend and it is a pity that he died. Michael Jackson is gone, but not forgotten.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T! WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU

What does respect mean to you. To mean, it means treating others the way you want to be treated. Respect  shows what you have learned in your lifetime as well as what kind of person you are. So my question to you is "What does respect mean to you?"

The Highest Prize- The Nobel Peace Prize

Only nine months into his presidency, President Obama received the highest prize there is which is the nobel peace prize. It seems as though he won the award based on his ambitions.
Truly, a very extraordinary turn of events when one thinks of it. Jimmy Carter waited years to get his after years of trying procure peace in various hot spots throughout the world.

“Perhaps for this reason, the newspaper said, “Analysts have almost unanimously interpreted his selection as a way of pressuring Obama to make pacifist choices as his administration continues forward.”  Link for Quote

Mother Theresa, also another Nobel Prize winner, who sacrificed her life to care for the poor. The paper quotes the following:

“Obama ought to recall that in 1979 he was preceded by Mother Teresa, who had the courage to state in her acceptance speech that the harshest war with the greatest number of ‘fallen’ is the practice of abortion, legalized and facilitated as well by the international structures.”     Link for Quote

Three past presidents have won the Nobel Peace Prize which are Roosevelt, Wilson, and Carter.   Past Presidents who have Won the Nobel Peace Prize

Dream within a Dream, My Dream Differed

My mama always tells me to, “Dream within a dream, my dream deferred.” I’m sure all of us here have dreams or goals including me, but my dreams will need more effort and time. My goals include accomplishing things during high school, attending college, and finding a cure for cancer. So what makes my goals different,? Is that I have the will and the power, the courage and the patience, and blessings to carry through with my future plans.

My first goal, that I share with the peers that sit before me is that we all plan on finishing high school. No one wants to drop out or fail out of school because we all want to be someone important and go somewhere in life. My time at Benjamin Banneker Academy will be successful and influential. Not because I can predict the future, but because I want it to happen. I plan on graduating with a high grade point average and with honors. I’ll even go on to say that I want to become valedictorian or salutatorian. After graduating from Benjamin Banneker, I would like to attend an Ivy League college or at least a decent college. I’ll take my education in college to the highest level possible. My main goals will take place after I graduate from college. Becoming a neonatal nurse is a career I have had my mind set on for a couple of years now due to the fact that I enjoy taking care of little infants. After securing a job as a neonatal nurse, I would like to find a cure for all cancers. I’ve been inspired to find this cure after learning that my grandfather has cancer in the bones. Even as I speak at this very moment, he suffers. A great family friend who I knew since I was about three years old and grew up with my mom, aunts, and uncles died three weeks ago due to gastric cancer which is cancer in the stomach. Coming up with a cure for cancer will help many people who are suffering from cancer. I’ll follow my mother’s footsteps and eventually purchase a house, and start a family of my own.

My fellow classmates, as you go through your journey in life, people will yell you that you cannot do things. However a quote says “Those who say it cannot be done shouldn’t interrupt the people doing it.” If you fall, pick yourself up knowing that there is something great to look forward to. Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something, because achieving anything in this lifetime is possible. Remember to always “Shoot for the moon. And even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

Be Smart, Be Unique, Be Responsible, Be Independent, Be YOU!!!

In this world, we all have something in common, but I'm one of a kind. I'm unique, intelligent, creative, responsible and independent. I"m an outgoing girl who loves to shop and is very funny. I consider myself to be adventurous but not curious, after all, curiosity killed the cat. My hobbies are cooking, shopping, bowling, traveling and taking care of young children. In school my strength is english and my weakness is math. However, the part of english that I really do not like is poetry. As always, I am a work in progress. I am learning to develop patience, have the ability to control my attitude and temper and not speak my mind when what I will say may be offensive. I always try my best to treat others the way I would like to be treated. My motto in life is to always "Be Smart, Be Unique, Be Responsible, Be Independent, Be YOU!"

How Important is Academics?

In my opinion, academics determines where and what you will be in the future. Of course we all think that math, history, english and science are boring, and useless, and just a complete waste of time. No one wants a job, we all prefer a career, and almost every career requires one of our major subjects. Think about it, nurses and doctors require science and math, lawyers have to use logic which is a part of english, and the most obvious are teachers who need all four subjects. I like to think of academics as something that I won't have to do all my life. Eventually, I'll graduate and academics won't be so important as it was when I was in school. Due to the fact that I am in high school, I try to take school seriously because I need a high school diploma no matter if I decide to go to college or get a job. In junior high school, the motto was "Failure is not an option but an expectation!" I plan to think the same way throughout the journey of my high school. My point is that academics is vital in this lifetime and it is necessary for success.
